WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE NATIONAL COUNCIL

The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) was created in early 1997 to meet the need for a national standard of certification for women's business enterprises. Endorsed by its corporate partners who understand that sector's needs, the WBENC certification program is provided through a network of established women's business organizations across the country.

The WBENC Board of Directors is comprised of representatives of corporations, women's business enterprises and women's organizations. The Board has endorsed a certification standard and monitors its integrity. A Leadership Council, representing all the women's business organization partners, provides a forum for discussion, serves as a creative hub for sharing ideas, and initiates policy recommendations to be considered by the Board of Directors. A Women's Input Committee (WIC) represents the women's business enterprises and provides insight into the needs and challenges of the women business owners served by WBENC.

WBENC provides partner organizations with comprehensive certification procedures vetted and accepted by national corporations, financial support and training for local staff and volunteers to carry out the certification process in an effective manner. It audits the national certification process and is a guarantor to its supporting corporations that the certification process is diligently adhered to and standards maintained.

The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) is a coalition of corporations, regionally focused women's business organizations and representatives of the Women's Business Enterprise community. WBENC enhances contracting opportunities for Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs) through its programs and service that are available throughout the United States.

Corporate members of WBENC have access to an Internet database - WBENCLink - of women's business enterprises that have participated in a rigorous and standardized certification process.

Add your voice by becoming a member of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council. Contact WBENC President Susan Philips Bari at (202) 862-4810 or wbecert@aol.com or www.womenconnect.com/wbenc for additional information.

WOMEN'S INPUT COMMITTEE

The mission of the Women's Input Committee (WIC) is to promote, translate advocate the needs, issues and benefits of Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs) and to facilitate corporate and supplier business opportunities for WBE members of WBENC.

Through their representative women business owners from across the country, WIC provides practical information and policy recommendations to the Leadership Council and the Board of Directors.

The WIC conducts surveys to analyze the needs of WBEs and recommends replication of programs that WBENC partners have implemented to enhance and promote business opportunities for WBEs.

WOMEN'S BUSINESS ORGANIZATION PARTNERS
The collective mission of WBENC's local partners can best be described as serving the business support needs of America's women-owned and operated small businesses. These organizations, that vary in size and scope of operations, provide access for WBEs to the WBENC national certification standard, help them develop business plans, find capital for growth and identify new markets.

CORPORATE PARTNERS

America's corporations, through special WBE initiatives within their companies and support of programs like WBENC's, are paying homage to the importance of diversity in today's marketplace. More than 200 currently accept certifications provided by our partner organizations have provided financial assistance to make the dream of a national certification standard a reality. We are grateful for their support.
